Tour pros shine with Sundog

By Michelle FloresPublished: July, 2008

The South Course at Torrey Pines is a grind for any golfer, especially since the layout was toughened for the recent U.S. Open.

So it was a no-brainer for Sundog Eyewear to have its Grinder sunglasses ready for Mike Weir when he showed up to play.

“I’m looking forward to wearing this new line,” said Weir, who hopes to channel most of the proceeds he receives to the children’s hospitals he supports through Miracle Golf Drive for Kids.

Weir is one of three tour pros who are helping design models for Sundog Eyewear. Hunter Mahan and Paula Creamer each have a signature series of Sundog glasses.

The company’s sunglass models have distortion-free technology, customized fittings and a wide range of lens, frame and color selections. Most models retail between $40 and $60.

“We’ve blended function, fit, performance and protection in a nice package, but that is still affordable,” said Ryan Chin, president of AMA Golf Company, a distributor of Sundog Eyewear. “The lenses offer high contrast between greens and blues, allowing golfers to see contours of the fairways and greens more clearly.”

Sundog Eyewear is intent on offering dozens of combinations of frames and lenses in many styles and colors because “what works for one person won’t work for another,” Chin said.

“Fit is very important, so we offer eight to 12 styles for all sizes of heads,” he added.

Creamer’s second collection for Sundog reflects the sophisticated look and A-game performance for which the “Pink Panther” is known whether she’s on or off the course.

Mahan almost was as hands-on as Creamer in helping design the sleek Hunter Mahan HDrive Series.

Weir’s popular Weir Golf sunglass line was introduced in 2004, less than a year after he became the first Canadian to win the Masters. The line has been expanded this season to include the Sundog Weir Golf Signature Series.

Sundog Eyewear models can be found at major retailers such as Roger Dunn Golf Shops and at many upscale golf courses and country clubs. To see the complete line of Sundog Eyewear, visit sundogeyewear.com.
