Inside the Ropes: Miller Time

Tiger is out of the picture in 2008, but a host of big names hope to take the lead.

By Eli MillerPublished: July, 2008

Who picks up the slack with Tiger Woods out for 2008? Adam Scott could still have a big year, but I think it’s finally time for Sergio Garcia to prove his critics (like me) wrong. Garcia will avenge his ’07 British Open playoff loss and get the major monkey off his back at Royal Birkdale.

It’s nice to see Bob May playing well again. The Lynwood native, who famously lost to Woods in a playoff at the 2000 PGA Championship, finished second at the Nationwide Tour’s Bank of America Open last month and stands a great chance of making it back to the PGA Tour in 2009.

Still trying to figure out why NBC Sports golf analyst Johnny Miller had to apologize for saying Rocco Mediate “looks like the guy who cleans Tiger’s swimming pool” during the final-round telecast. Woods makes all of his competitors look like pool cleaners, independent of race or culture.
