With a central location, amazing scenery and superb value — not to mention a fun and well-conditioned layout — there’s simply isn’t much Anaheim Hills Golf Course doesn’t offer its patrons. Golfers get an instant sense of what the track is about when they reach the tee of the par-5 first hole. Though it plays short at just 484 yards from the tips, the picturesque downhill opener demands an accurate tee shot on the right or left side of the fairway in order to avoid a prominent sycamore in the middle of the fairway. “If you’re in the center of the fairway, it’s time to lay up,” said City of Anaheim golf superintendent Michael Lautenbach. Once players negotiate the dramatic drop on No. 1, the 428-yard par-4 third offers a narrow uphill tee shot followed by a severe dogleg to the right. The hardest hole on the card, No. 3, plays longer than listed, so par is always a good score. Elevation changes abound throughout the rest of Anaheim Hills: holes six and 17 are both par 3s that dip from tee to green; and the par-5 12th features a double fairway that slopes upward. The layout’s variety of trees, which include oak, ash, eucalyptus and jacaranda, provide many interesting scenes throughout the round. The clubhouse is one of the most luxurious in the region. Featuring banquet facilities ideal for large or small gatherings, it is also a great place to relax with friends and have a bite to eat before or after your round. “Our clubhouse is beautiful. It’s something people may not expect to find at a public facility,” added Lautenbach. For more information, call (714) 998-3041 or visit playanaheimgolf.com.
