![]() From the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip to the region’s many scenic golf courses, beauty isn’t hard to find in Sin City. While The Legacy will tantalize visitors with a picturesque clubhouse and unique lava rock landscaping, Arroyo at Red Rock is an ideal venue to take in breathtaking mountain scenery. No matter where you tee it up in Vegas, a memorable round is always a manageable drive or short flight away. The Legacy Golf Club •Location: 19 miles southeast of the Las Vegas Strip. •Vitals: Golfers will notice the Southwestern-themed clubhouse as they arrive, and the practice facilities include a driving range, putting green and chipping area. The restaurant offers made-from-scratch soups and several Southwestern dishes. •Layout: The Arthur Hills-designed track has four sets of tees ranging from 5,340 yards to 7,233 yards. The fairways are contoured and tiered, meaning wayward tee shots often end in sandy desert lies. Sacrificing distance for accuracy will keep big numbers off the scorecard. •Why you’ll enjoy it: Lava rocks between tee boxes, undulating greens and the stunning contrast of greenery in the landscape. Golfers also can get creative by hitting an array of approach and short shots into the greens. •Quotable: “The course is a true links course that is fair and challenging if you play the correct tees suited to your game. There is not a lot of water or bunkers, but in order to attack the pin you must be on the correct side of the fairway.” — Tom Vold, director of golf •Local knowledge: Legacy has played host to U.S. Open qualifiers the past 10 years. The 10th hole has four tee boxes in the shape of a card suit — heart, diamond, club and spade. •Rates: Until October, green fees top out at $90. A twilight rate is available for $55. Call the pro shop for the schedule. The clubhouse is dedicated solely to the daily-fee player and has a full-service golf shop, locker rooms and a bar and grill with terrace dining. •Layout: Five sets of tees make the course play from 4,843 yards to 6,883 yards. The course’s bunkering and water hazards provide a stark contrast to the red rock and desert mountain scenery. Generous landing areas and bail-out zones cater to the recreational golfer, yet approaches missing the greens will leave difficult bunker or chip shots. •Why you’ll enjoy it: Arroyo offers a laid-back atmosphere for players who want a break from the energy of Las Vegas. •Quotable: “If you’re looking for a lush course that provides views of the desert, surrounding mountains and city skyline, this is definitely the course to play.” — Troy Anderson, director of sales and marketing •Local knowledge: When Palmer expanded the Red Rock Golf Club into a 36-hole facility, he used 12 of the original holes of the Mountain course to make the Arroyo course. •Rates: $99 Monday-Thursday and $199 Friday-Sunday through August.
