A leg up on the competition

The high-quality line of Antas Apparel slacks is creating a buzz at high-end clubs in Southern California.

Antas Apparel makes some of the most refined golf trousers on the market.
When Greg Villeneuve was approached about a new pant on the market, he was a bit skeptical.

“Oh, just another trouser line,” he thought.

But after trying on a pair of Antas Apparel slacks, the Montage Resort’s director of golf was hooked. Now he owns seven pairs.

“I don’t think I can wear anything else,” Villeneuve said. “The construction is by far superior to any other high-end Italian wool pant.”

In just a few months since its PGA Merchandise Show debut, Costa Mesa-based Antas Apparel is creating a buzz on and off the course, and the four entrepreneurs behind the line have crafted a niche in a tough market.

“The line is designed around the golf lifestyle — from the fabrics to the designs of our pants and shorts,” said Antas partner Joseph Puskarich, who spent the past 10 years in merchandising and sales with Zanella, a luxury-brand trouser company. “The pants perform better than any other pant on the market. It’s suitable for golf but also for traveling.”

The company is two-fold. The ready-made Foundation Collection features performance-oriented luxury cotton and wool fabrics that resist water and stains and “maintain the luxury of high-end fabrics,” Puskarich said. The customized Signature Collection takes it up a notch with slightly higher-end Italian fabrics and choice of pockets, belt loops, lining, waistband and more.

Each line is offered in three styles — slim fitting, traditional fit and a more relaxed fit — and more than 150 fabrics. The palette includes seersucker in brighter colors and pearl gray wool trousers with a light pink windowpane pattern.

Foundation Collection shorts range from $110 to $125 and pants $150-$275; pants from the Signature Collection are $295-$495.

Antas Apparel also has received positive feedback from touring pros.

“Players want to look great and it’s important to have pants that fit right,” Puskarich said. “You think it’s a small detail but it plays in the psyche of these players. This is their job.”
