Fab 5

Keep an eye on these players when the LPGA Tour comes to Southern California for the Kia Classic and the Kraft Nabisco Championship.

By Eli MillerPublished: March, 2010

Lorena Ochoa (top) and Michelle Wie will be two players to watch on the LPGA Tour in 2010 (COURTESY: Kraft Nabisco Championship).
Lorena Ochoa. The reigning Rolex Player of the Year won only three times in 2009 after combining for 21 triumphs the previous three seasons. Ochoa had a busy personal life last year, though, so look for a rebound in 2010.

Jiyai Shin. The likeliest challenger to Ochoa’s throne is likely still the most underrated player in professional golf — men’s or women’s. The 21-year-old Shin already has 30 wins, including three LPGA victories apiece in ’08 and ’09.

Paula Creamer. Clearly the LPGA’s best to have never won a major, Creamer came close last year with a tie for third at the Women’s British Open. Her gritty course demeanor is complemented by a bubbly personality.

Cristie Kerr. No American LPGA member won more money than Kerr in 2009. Only 32, she’s eclipsed $1 million in earnings in each of the last six seasons and has displayed the type of talent that suggests the best could be yet to come.

Michelle Wie. The 20-year-old has accomplished the least of any player on this list, but nobody moves the proverbial needle in women’s golf more than her. She finally picked up win No. 1 last year and is poised to collect more this year.
