Lee Westwood

A chat with Ryder Cup competitor Lee Westwood.

By Glenn MondayPublished: July, 2008

England’s Lee Westwood has been on each of the last five European Ryder Cup teams. He finished one shot out of the playoff at last month’s U.S. Open.

Glenn: Have you pretty much figured out this game by now?
Lee: I don’t know if you ever completely figure it out. It hasn’t come easy for me; I’m constantly working on things.

Glenn: What are you focusing on now?
Lee: I want my swing to look solid. I am working on the same fundamentals you see in most good players. I’m trying to keep any jerky movements out, and I’m striving for good rhythm. Good rhythm will help you achieve good balance.

Glenn: What advice would you give to high-handicappers?
Lee: Work on the fundamentals on the range, then you will perform with confidence on the course. Practice your short game. We all need a little extra practice in that area.

Glenn: How many balls do you hit per week with your driver?
Lee: My average would come in at around 300.
