Cantlay drops UCLA, turns pro

He will give up his amateur status to take a shot at the PGA Tour.

UCLA golf standout Patrick Cantlay (Los Alamitos) made it official Tuesday when he announced he was leaving the school to turn pro at the Travelers Championship which opens June 21 in Cromwell, Conn.
 
In an interview with Southland Golf prior to the start of the 2012 U.S. Open Cantlay said: “To win, that’s my goal every time I go in a tournament,” “I feel like I have a chance to win [the U.S. Open] if I play well.”
 
Cantlay just finished tied for 41st with the likes of Rickie Fowler, Zach Johnson and Ian Poulter.
 
Cantlay will forego his status as the top-ranked player on the Men’s World Amateur Golf Rankings.
 
According to pgatour.com, Cantlay has signed with agent Mark Steinberg of Excel Sports Management, who also represents Tiger Woods.

How did Cantleyn"drop" UCLA? He signed a lettermof intent to go there amd played on the golf team for two years! How did he drop them? He will go down as one of the greatest golfers to ever play at UCLA! Drop them? I dont get it.
