‘Grand’ slam

The Ho’olei at Grand Wailea is a luxurious new way to enjoy one of Maui’s most picturesque locales.

By Michelle FloresPublished: June, 2008

Golfers and their families can rent a three-bedroom home and enjoy guest privileges this summer at the Grand Wailea Resort on Maui.

The 780-room resort has added luxury townhomes as an accommodations option. The Ho’olei at Grand Wailea has 3,200- to 4,000-square-foot deluxe units that provide convenience and intimacy for extended stays, families or groups.

“These are privately owned homes that when not in use by their owners become part of the hotel’s [room] inventory,” said marketing representative Christina Yumul. “They’re perfect for multigenerational families.”

Those who rent a townhome (a minimum seven-night stay is required) can use all the services, venues and attractions of the Grand Wailea. The unit’s architectural designs include great rooms, large master bedrooms, vaulted ceilings and lanais that take in ocean views, while features range from chef’s kitchens with built-in appliances to lanai barbecues for a home-away-from-home ambiance.

The community has a tropical playground with a large pool and swim-in grotto, 19-foot waterfall, children’s pool with sandy beach entry, whirlpool tubs and an outdoor kitchen.

Highlights at the 40-acre Grand Wailea, which recently completed several renovation projects, include a two-story fitness center, spa, public areas, and upgraded rooms with flat-screen TVs, frameless shower enclosures and large soaking tubs.

Renovations also took place in the Nupua Tower, a private-access club encompassing 100 penthouse-style rooms and featuring concierge service and private lounges.

“A lot of time, effort and resources are being dedicated to the continuing enhancement and restoration of the Grand Wailea with the goal of elevating the guest experience and retaining our reputation as one of the premier destinations in Hawaii,” said managing director Matt Bailey.

Activities and services include the Grande Camp, a resort-within-a-resort where children can enjoy movies, a computer room, yard, games and activities such as crab hunting, lei making and hula lessons under the supervision of staff members.

With the children occupied, mom and dad can get in a round of golf at one of Wailea Golf Club’s thee championship tracks, which feature ocean views from every hole. If lessons are needed, the David Leadbetter Academy at Wailea offers a range of services, from an hour session to a three-day golf school.
